About this Edition
Munich celebrated the 187th edition of Oktoberfest 2022, the world's largest public festival, from September 17 to October 3, 2022. After the previous year's cancellation, the festival returned with enthusiasm, offering visitors a rich Bavarian tradition, complete with beer, food, and various activities.
The festival, founded in 1997, has historically welcomed over six million guests each year. In 2022, the Messe Munich outdoor area was transformed into a vibrant festival ground, spanning 414,000 sq m. Guests enjoyed 17 large and 21 small festival tents, alongside numerous rides and attractions.
During the event, the Oide Wiesn, a historic section of the festival, was a highlight for many. With its traditional charm, it complemented the modern vibrancy of the main event. The 2022 edition was expected to attract a record number of participants, reflecting the festival's enduring appeal.
