About this Edition
SPIEL 2022 took place from 6 to 9 October in Essen, Germany, marking a significant step towards the event's return to its traditional scale. Nearly 600 companies from 41 countries showcased their latest products to industry professionals and gaming enthusiasts. During the event, the Essen exhibition centre became a hub for discovering and playing rare board games unavailable in the German market post-event.
Throughout the show, over 1000 exclusive game premieres, including card, dice, and board games, were celebrated. Visitors had the chance to engage with communication games, solo versions or expansions of popular titles, puzzle games, and storytelling-based games. The innoSPIEL award recognized games with innovative designs and principles, while Educators' Day highlighted the educational potential of board games.
Participants also enjoyed a variety of workshops, live demonstrations, tournaments, and competitions. These activities provided opportunities for connection and showcased the latest trends in classic and modern gaming.
