About this Edition
The gaming community is preparing for the next edition of SPIEL in Essen. The internationally renowned public fair for board games will take place from 22 to 25 October 2026. It will bring together publishers, designers, miniature artists, hobbyists, retailers and professionals using gamification principles in the areas of training and education. Close to 950 exhibitors will present new releases and beloved classics to an enthusiastic audience of more than 220,000 visitors from Germany and beyond.
The continuous growth of SPIEL will be visible in 2026, as the event will occupy all eight halls of Messe Essen for the first time ever. Across 81,200 square metres, participants will discover a wide range of board games, card and dice games, and tabletop role-playing games. Numerous long-established companies exhibiting at the fair will return with expanded booths to showcase new launches. Meanwhile, a significant number of small publishers will introduce their first games at SPIEL 2026.
Meaningful conversations and fun have always been an integral part of the fair experience. The programme of the 2026 edition will include formats such as:
- SPIEL.talks, the platform featuring workshops, roundtables, lectures and panels on key industry topics
- Golden Demon, the painting competition gathering talented artists that turn miniatures from the Warhammer universe into masterpieces
- Meet & Play, the meeting point of board game content creators and their fans
- Deutsche Spiele Preis (DSP), the gamers’ award ceremony highlighting outstanding games published in German that have captivated the German, Austrian and Swiss audiences
